Winter Spice Mulled Wine

To help make your day even better, here's a recipe for the perfect mulled wine, from our favourite foodie Aoife McElwain.

Winter Spice Mulled Wine

This simple mulled wine recipe is best made with a decent bottle of wine. The better the wine, the tastier the mulled wine! Full-bodied and bold wines like Syrah and Malbec are perfect for this seasonally spiced drink.

You'll need:

1 bottle of decent red wine
2 cinnamon sticks
4 star anise
4 cloves
2 oranges, sliced
1 lemon, sliced
100g of brown sugar


1. Place all the ingredients into a large saucepan or pot. Bring to a simmer but don't boil. Simmer for about 10 to 15 minutes.

2. To serve, pour the mulled wine into Arran Street East beakers. Add a slice of orange to the beaker and enjoy warm.
